Access and Surveillance Engineer

Position Title: Access and Surveillance Engineer Location: Houston, TX or Abilene, TX FLSA Class: Exempt Responsible to: Sr Manager – Network and Communication

Position Summary: Installs, maintains, and repairs physical securityand monitoring systems. They are responsible for troubleshooting network-connected cameras, electronic door locks, card readers, and alarm systems to ensure commercial and government facilities remain secure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mount hardware (cameras, sensors, panels) and run low-voltage cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, coaxial).
  • Conduct routine inspections, test system hardware, and perform software/firmware updates.
  • Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues between security devices, networks, and monitoring stations.
  • Program access permissions, configure Cloud / Network Video Recorders (NVRs), and map camera views.
  • Instruct facility staff and security personnel on how to use access control software and monitoring interfaces.

Other Requirements:

  • A 2-year technical degree or equivalent experience in IP networking, low-voltage wiring, or electronic security.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, and IP-based camera and cloud systems.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard platforms (e.g., Avigilon, Genetec, Lenel, Axis, Ubiquiti, Verkada).
  • Ability to travel frequently to field locations, including overnight trips
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Ability to operate aerial lifts
  • Ability to work in tight spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Valid Drivers License
