    Job Summary

    The Dispatcher works under the direction of an MHS manager. This person helps organize and schedule the safe movement of patients throughout the hospital. They assign transport staff to requests, communicate with doctors and nurses, and make sure patient transport runs smoothly. The dispatcher may also help train new employees and track performance.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Provide friendly and helpful customer service to patients, staff, and coworkers
    • Receive and manage transport requests using a computer system
    • Decide which transport requests are most urgent and assign them to the right staff
    • Keep track of team member schedules, breaks, and task completion
    • Monitor how quickly and safely transports are completed
    • Work with hospital staff to make sure patients get to appointments and procedures on time
    • Use safe techniques when helping move patients using wheelchairs or transport beds
    • Offer comfort and support to patients and families during transport
    • Help new staff learn transport systems and procedures
    • Maintain and organize transport equipment
    • Return wheelchairs and stretchers to their proper storage areas
    • Keep accurate records for compliance with rules and regulations
    • Follow hospital safety, privacy, and infection control policies
    • Use the patient transport tracking system correctly
    • Take part in training and stay up to date with job knowledge
    • Performs other duties as assigned
    Qualifications and Requirements
    • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
    • Must be able to work legally in the United States.
    • Must pass background and drug screenings.
    • Healthcare experience preferred.
    • Able to speak, read, and write English fluently.
    • Ability to work well under time constraints.
    • Ability to work under pressure.
    • Excellent communication and people skills.
    • Working knowledge of Windows.
    • Successful completion of Patient Safety Associate (PSA), Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training.
    • May be required to meet immunization or health screening requirements through providing personal records or undergoing testing and, if required, further immunizations or tests.
    Physical Requirements
    • Able to run, walk, or sit for long periods
    • Able to lift 50 pounds often and up to 75 pounds occasionally
    • Able to push/pull wheelchairs with patients weighing 100-350 pounds
    • Must have full range of motion for lifting and moving
    • May need to wear PPE and pass medical screening for it
    • The ability to work flexible schedules and/or extended hours such as weekends, holidays, and longer shifts is required.
