    Corrections Deputy

    Candidates are encouraged to apply for a limited number of paid sponsorships to a corrections academy hosted at the Brevard County Sheriff's Office Training Range. We are looking for strong candidates with an excellent work history who aspire to become a Corrections Deputy. $5,000.00 BONUS - Trainees who are attending an academy or equivalency of training program shall become eligible for the one-time $5,000.00 bonus upon successful completion of the Corrections Academy, passing of the state exam, and promotion to a Certified Corrections Deputy. In addition to an exciting and challenging career opportunity with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office we participate in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) and offers an excellent retirement program. CORRECTIONS DEPUTY ANNUAL PAY: $58,115.20. All candidates who are selected to attend the upcoming Corrections Academy must be able to:

    • Have the ability to commute to and from the academy daily according to their class schedule.
    • Complete and pass all portions of our agency background process prior to the start of the academy as described below under the selection process.
    • Candidates will be required to complete and pass the state required Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) for correctional officers in order to qualify for this position.

    Program Terms and Conditions: The selected applicant agrees to attend all classes and labs and pass the FDLE State Officer Certification Exam. When trainees are not actively engaged in academy courses, they will perform various office-related duties, training exercises and observation events during or after business hours. Once the applicant passes all portions of the BCSO background process and is approved for hire, they will be under contract with the agency for a total of three years from their hire date. Selected candidate's salary and benefits, as described in this job posting, will be provided by BCSO while attending the corrections academy.

    This is a trainee-level classification in which candidates are expected to successfully complete the Basic Corrections Officer Academy and pass the State Officer Certification Exam. Candidates will then be reclassified as a Corrections Deputy. Separation from employment and reimbursement of tuition fees will result if:

    • Recruit withdraws from the academy or is terminated by academy authorities
    • Recruit fails to complete the academy for any reason
    • Recruit fails to pass the State Officer Certification Exam
    • Recruit voluntarily resigns
    • Recruit abandons his/her position before working as a certified corrections deputy for BCSO or fails to fulfill their three-year contract after becoming certified and re-classified as a Corrections Deputy.
    • Regular, dependable, and punctual attendance is a requirement for this position.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be 18 years of age
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen
    • Must have a valid Class E Florida Driver's License
    • Must have a High School Diploma or GED
    • Must have not been convicted of a felony
