    Loss Control Specialist

    Merchants Insurance Group is a leading Property and Casualty Insurer in the Northeast and is looking for a Loss Control specialist for our Corporate Loss Control team. The territory for this opportunity will be located within Albany, NY, Hudson Valley or Western Massachusetts location.

    The Loss Control Specialist will act as an expert in safety related areas for underwriters, agents and insureds. This involves risk management and consultation services in the prevention and reduction of loss for our policyholders. The senior specialist will survey and service the larger and more complex accounts, take the lead in training and education sessions and become involved in special projects/programs that are being developed within the company.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Conducts multiline loss control surveys of prospects and clients to evaluate operation, exposure, and control information to be used by Underwriting in their decision-making process to write insurance business.
    • Prepares reports for Underwriting and Recommendations for Customers
    • Assists in the development and presentation of programs and training seminars for clients and other departments in the Company.
    • Responds to special requests from Underwriting Department and clients with prior approval from Loss Control Department Management.
    • Assist in achieving commercial lines loss ratio for assigned territories per company objectives and goals.
    • Assist in achieving commercial lines production goals for assigned territories.

    Qualifications & Skills:

    • Qualified candidates will have a 4-year degree or equivalent work-related experience.
    • Currently possess/actively pursuing one or more of the following certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), or similar.
    • 5 years loss control experience.
    • The ability to travel 80% of the work week.
    • Valid driver's license is required.
    • Strong level of safety and loss control experience and strong understanding of liability exposures and contracts.
    • Knowledge of industry developments and trends.
    • Working knowledge of Loss Control Management Systems, RCI or similar systems, and the ability to work with assigned hardware utilizing the corporate procedures in place for maximum utilization of the system.
    • Exceptional organization, verbal and written communication skills are highly desirable.

    Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale. The estimated salary for this role ranges from $75,000 - $100,000 based on leveling and geography, along with an equity component and a comprehensive benefits package. This range is merely an estimate; actual compensation may deviate from this range based on skills, experience and qualifications.
