    Crossing Guard

    Salary: $16.50 hourly.

    Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Status: Non-Exempt / Timesheet required.

    Annual Days: 190

    General Purpose: The School Crossing Guard is responsible for assisting school children crossing major traffic thoroughfares in designated school zones.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assists children at street crossing zones
    • Directs children to crossing zones and ensures traffic is stopped in order to allow children to cross the street
    • Assists in maintaining a safe atmosphere for school children in and around school crossing zones
    • Instructs the children on safe conduct when crossing in a school zone
    • Records and reports vehicles driving recklessly and at high rates of speed
    • Administers basic first aid to injured pedestrians

    Minimum Requirements:

    • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
    • Reads and writes and follows oral and written instructions.
    • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine the proper course of action
    • Ability to follow and understand oral and written instructions
    • Ability to deal with others firmly, courteously, tactfully and with respect
    • Ability to establish friendly relationships with youth and parents
    • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
    • Knowledge of safety rules which can be taught to young pedestrian
    • Knowledge of school procedures when dealing with uncooperative students.

    Experience:

    Job requires no previous experience. Training will be provided.

    Hours generally fall within the following parameters:

    Monday - Friday: 7:00 - 8:15 A.M., Monday - Thursday: 2:45 - 4:00 P.M., and Friday: 12:45 - 2:00 P.M.

    (Hours/Shifts subject to change based on Facility Manager, school requirements, and applicant availability)
