The Job
The Department of Airports is seeking an experienced Airport Maintenance Supervisor for the Chino Airport. This position is responsible for planning, assigning, supervising, evaluating, and participating in the construction, maintenance, and repair of airport buildings, grounds, runway and taxiway surfaces, and related equipment.
Key responsibilities include coordinating the maintenance and improvement of airport facilities and grounds, establishing employee work schedules, training and mentoring staff, and ensuring safe and efficient operations. The position also assists in developing recommendations for the annual maintenance and operations budget and supports the overall upkeep and functionality of airport infrastructure.
The current vacancy exists at the Chino Airport . The resulting eligible list may be used to fill future vacancies throughout the County as they occur.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
San Bernardino County is the largest county in the continental United States at approximately 20,000 square miles. The County owns six (6) general aviation airports, which are located throughout the County and operated by the Department of Airports. The largest of these airports is the Chino Airport (CNO), which is located in the western area of the County and serves as a reliever airport to Ontario International Airport (ONT) and is home to a large number of World War II era aircraft. The Apple Valley Airport (APV) is located in the high desert and is home to a significant number of sport aircraft. Barstow/Daggett Airport (DAG) is ideally located to provide support to the Fort Irwin National Training Center and is home to a significant military helicopter support facility. The Baker Airport (o02) is located adjacent to Interstate 15 and is utilized by public safety agencies. The Twentynine Palms Airport (TNP) is located in close proximity to the Twentynine Palms Air Ground Combat Center, and the Needles Airport (EED) is located adjacent to the Colorado River and provides service to the eastern portion of the County. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, work history verification, as well as a job-related physical exam and drug screening.
Availability Requirement: Airport Maintenance Supervisors are required to respond to phone calls or text messages during off-duty hours, either immediately or as soon as reasonably possible, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. In emergency situations, supervisors may be required to report to an airport within 45 minutes.
Certification: The successful candidate must obtain the Certified Member (C.M.) designation from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) before the completion of the probationary period.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.
Physical: Physical requirements of the position include the following: the ability to frequently lift, carry, push/pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Requires the ability to sit, stand, balance, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, turn, climb, twist, crawl, and reach. Requires fine manipulation in both hands. Employees work outside continuously and are exposed to electricity, chemicals, heat, oil, odors, dust, gas, and noise.

Minimum Requirements
Experience: Three (3) years of full time equivalent building construction or maintenance experience performing skilled or semi-skilled duties including carpentry, plumbing, construction or electrical work AND one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience of a construction or maintenance crew. Experience may be concurrent. Experience must be clearly detailed on the application.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience working at a general aviation airport and a strong understanding of FAA Advisory Circulars related to airport operations and maintenance compliance. Highly desirable qualifications include strong leadership and interpersonal skills, the ability to motivate and develop staff, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
