DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Plans, organizes, schedules, directs, and reviews various operations and personnel to ensure implementation and completion of work. Assign work to subordinate employees and technical personnel. Maintain time and attendance via timekeeping system. Reviews and critiques methods and procedures regularly to maintain and improve efficient areas of operation. Evaluates individual and group performances and make or recommend improvements. Maintain records and reports of work schedules and accomplishments. Ensure policies and procedures are aligned with the division's expectations. Monitors on-going projects to ensure all required work is completed in accordance with City of Houston standards. Coordinates the work of sections and works cooperatively with other divisions, outside agencies, committees and civic associations. Prepares annual operating budgets. Makes recommendations for capital facilities. Ensures personnel receive appropriate safety training and supplies, including review of SARA Title III right-to-know information. Strong ability to manage high volume service request routed through service line. Other duties include servicing equipment, ordering of material, and other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS May require working in all types of weather and dusty, noisy environments. Some physical exertion such as climbing ladders and lifting objects up to 40 pounds. The individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management Position at the Tier I Level. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Five years of experience closely related to the activities of the section are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS A valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving. (AP 2-2)
PREFERENCESExperience at a surface water treatment facility. Experience and demonstrated skills utilizing INFOR software or a work order system.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**GENERAL INFORMATION SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None
