Responsibilities

What you'll do - Install, repair, clean, and maintain wastewater mains and lines to keep the City's sewer system operating safely and reliably
- Transport materials, tools, and equipment to job sites and safely load and unload construction equipment to support daily field operations
- Operate trucks, flatbed trailers, lo-boy units, and heavy equipment to move and position construction machinery efficiently
- Use a backhoe for trenching, filling, and minor excavation while protecting surrounding infrastructure
- Plan and perform work carefully to avoid damage to underground pipes, cables, and utilities
- Perform routine field repairs and maintenance on assigned equipment, and assist mechanics or machinists with larger repairs as needed
- Service equipment with fuel, oil, water, and grease to ensure readiness and safe operation
- Operate snow-plowing and snow-removal equipment to support emergency response and all-weather operations
What success looks like - Wastewater systems function reliably with minimal service disruptions
- Excavation and repair work is completed safely without damage to underground utilities
- Equipment is well-maintained, operational, and used correctly
- Jobs are completed efficiently, safely, and according to work plans
- Snow and emergency conditions are handled quickly to maintain access and service
Qualifications
REQUIRES - Six (6) months of experience operating trucks and other specialized automotive equipment
- Valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies
- Ability to obtain a Missouri Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A, B, or C within the probationary period, as determined by the department
- Ability to pass a physical examination as prescribed by the City
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Ability to pass a background check as prescribed by the City

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
