What you'll do - Lead and supervise Animal Services enforcement officers by planning assignments, guiding field responses, and ensuring timely, appropriate handling of animal-related complaints to protect public safety
- Review and oversee field cases, citations, and enforcement actions to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with animal control ordinances and legal standards
- Respond to and manage escalated or complex cases involving dangerous, injured, abused, or aggressive animals to ensure safe and effective resolution
- Train, coach, and evaluate staff through ongoing guidance, performance reviews, and specialized training to maintain high professional and service standards
- Coordinate animal intake decisions and investigations related to neglect, bites, and dangerous animals to support shelter operations and legal outcomes
- Partner with law enforcement, emergency services, and community members to support public education, emergency response, and ordinance enforcement

Schedule expectations This position requires rotating shifts to support
24/7, seven-day-a-week operations, including
mandatory overtime and on-call response to support priority calls and emergency requests from Kansas City Police and Fire Departments.
Qualifications

- Accredited Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in animal health and safety, health and safety inspection, neighborhood or community assistance, or enforcement work
OR - Associate's degree and four (4) years of experience in animal health and safety, health and safety inspection, neighborhood or community assistance, or code enforcement
OR - High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in animal health and safety, health and safety inspection, neighborhood or community assistance, or code enforcement a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb;}tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6;}tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5;}
- Valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies
- Ability to obtain advanced certification as an Animal Control Officer II through MACA, NACA, or another approved program within six (6) months of appointment
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Security License Type A from the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Ability to pass a physical examination as prescribed by the City
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to chest height or 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work in hazardous and extreme weather conditions
- Ability to safely handle animals with unknown or aggressive temperaments
