    The Home Assessment Module Lead oversees and supervises a team of home assessors responsible for implementing the home assessment program. This position is responsible for organizing and engaging with residents, communities, and partners to support a countywide home assessment program as part of the larger community engagement effort located in the Wildland Fire Management Program. Home Assessors serve as a technical resource for residents, community organizations, other departments, and partner wildfire professionals. Home Assessors offer guidance for prioritizing mitigation strategies to reduce potential home ignition and increase wildfire resilience.

    • Organizes and facilitates community and home assessments across a diverse geographic area and populations collaborating and coordinating with partner agencies.
    • Manages home and community level assessment requests and scheduling.
    • Collects, analyzes, and maintains home and community assessment data.
    • Identifies appropriate supporting preparedness materials to ensure delivery of comprehensive home assessment packages.
    • Provides technical guidance and options for home hardening, creating defensible space, and fire-resistant landscaping techniques.
    • Engages residents, communities, and partners to promote and encourage individual parcel and community level assessments.
    • Engages with residents and communities to prioritize mitigation, home hardening and preparedness actions.
    • Trains community partners on assessment technology applications and reporting procedures.
    • Serves as a technical resource for other departments and partner agencies.
    • Ensures accurate and completes delivery of home assessment products to residents and communities.
    • Analyzes and evaluates program data and prepares detailed reports.
    • Attends meetings, workshops, webinars related to home assessment methodology and home ignition zone science.
    • Assists residents and communities towards related funding sources.
    • Assists with the development, preparation, and delivery of educational materials and presentations to homeowner and community groups.
    • Educates residents and communities on national, regional, and local level community centered programs such as Firewise USA®, Fire Adapted Communities (FAC) and FACO Neighborhood Ambassador.
    • Ensures consistency amongst home assessment team members on science-based home ignition zone best practices.
    • Supervises staff in area of responsibility. Administers and makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraisals, and taking corrective action. Conducts performance evaluations and communicates short- and long-term goals and objectives. Submits personnel records and reports as required by the county. Assists and advises subordinates as necessary, resolves problems as non-routine situations arise, and ensures adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards. Communicates changes in policy and procedures to direct reports and implements them as directed.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Position involves working outside year-round, walking over potentially steep terrain.

    Required -
    • NFPA Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Certification required within 1 year of hire.


    Preferred -
    • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, conservation, fire science, or closely related field.
    • 1-year supervisory experience.
    • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
    • Experience working with diverse community groups.
