The Position:
Summary:
WESA is seeking an Engineering Intern to support the Engineering Department in the planning, design, and construction of water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure projects. This role provides hands-on experience in municipal utility engineering, including exposure to hydraulic analysis, GIS, and capital project delivery. This internship is a part-time position available year-round with flexible hours, not to exceed a yearly total of 999 hours or a maximum term of 12 months, paid at $20.00 per hour.
Responsibilities: - Assist with preparation of engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
- Support design and analysis of water distribution, wastewater collection, & recycled water systems
- Perform basic engineering calculations and assist with hydraulic modeling and data analysis
- Review plans and submittals for compliance with District standards and regulatory requirements
- Participate in field inspections of construction projects to ensure quality control and adherence to plans and specifications.
- Provide GIS support, mapping, and data management
- Develop figures and exhibits using CAD and GIS tools
- Assist with processing utility information requests and record drawings
- Conduct research, data collection, and technical investigations
- Provide general administrative and engineering support as needed
The Ideal Candidate: - Currently pursuing or recent completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field. Relevant coursework or equivalent combinations of education and experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered.
- Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Must possess a valid California Driver’s License
Desired Qualifications: - Familiarity withwater/wastewater systems & engineering principles (hydraulics, fluid mechanics)
- Experience with GIS (ArcGIS) and/or CAD (AutoCAD/Civil3D)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and technical writing skills
Compensation:
- CalPERS Retirement is provided using the 2% at age 62 formula for “New/PEPRA” Members.
- Flexible Work Schedule (Max 30 Hours per Week)
- Stipend $20 per hour
