    POSITION SUMMARY

    Performs a wide variety of more complex and specialized financial and accounting duties, including department procurement, in support of an assigned area of the City. Provides accurate information to other City departments and the general public. May serve as a lead worker. Frequent use of independent judgment is involved.

    Work may involve responsibility for distributing work to a small team of employees in complex accounting activity such as payroll, payables, receivables, billing, etc. Work is subject to verification by a variety of internal automatic checks and periodic audits and reviews.

    NOTE: This position will primarily report to the Prospect Lake Clean Water Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida: A new state-of-the-art, membrane-based potable water treatment facility, being developed via a 30-year public-private partnership between the City of Fort Lauderdale, IDE Technologies, and Ridgewood Infrastructure. Designed to replace the nearly 70-year-old Fiveash plant, it will draw water from the Biscayne Aquifer and has a capacity of 50 million gallons per day. The plant will combine nanofiltration (treating about 70% of flow) and ion-exchange (the remaining 30%) to deliver clear, high-quality potable water while minimizing raw water losses and energy use.

    In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants).

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.     • Compile, maintain, and audit a wide range of statistical, legal, purchasing, and accounting records to ensure data accuracy and compliance.
    • Record financial transactions, reconcile journals and ledgers, and maintain organized accounting documentation.
    • Prepare periodic financial and statistical statements, reports, and summaries to support departmental operations.
    • Track agreements and license expiration dates, ensuring timely renewals and ongoing contract compliance.
    • Reconcile various accounts, including bank deposits, savings accounts, vendor accounts, and customer accounts.
    • Draft correspondence and respond to public records requests in accordance with City standards.
    • Receive, process, and distribute invoices, and coordinate with vendors to resolve discrepancies.
    • Calculate and process payments to employees and external agencies with accuracy and adherence to procedures.
    • Process departmental purchase requests in compliance with procurement policies and departmental guidelines.
    • Enter, update, and maintain financial and payroll information within the City’s accounting systems.
    • Monitor, analyze, and distribute financial reports and documents to support departmental decision-making.
    • Administer accounts receivable processes, including tracking and collection activities.
    • Serve as a lead worker by guiding team members and distributing tasks, as needed, in complex accounting activities.
    • Perform additional related duties as assigned to support department needs.


    JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

    MINIMUM JOB REQUIRMENTS:

    High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency. Three (3) or more years of clerical accounting experience. Completion of additional qualifying coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for only up to 2 years of missing required experience. If claiming Veterans' Preference, you must attach a copy of the DD214 Member 4 form (or other supporting claim documents) to your on-line application.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Associate degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a closely related field.Experience working in a government accounting environment.Intermediate or higher proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Work, PowerPoint.
    As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.

    PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    The position involves light physical demands, such as exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Position is mostly sedentary but may involve short periods of walking, standing and bending. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
