    Description:

    The Park Ranger Supervisor I is responsible for supervising a team performing patrol and enforcement duties to protect natural resources, ensure visitors’ safety, and promote environmental awareness. Oversee and participate in providing public outreach and education, and emergency operations. Responsible for the allocation of resources supporting projects and programs. The supervisor I is a working supervisor responsible for performing patrol duties.

    SCHEDULE:

    We are hiring for three (3) positions. Please let us know if you’d like to be considered for a specific location and/or work schedule during the application process.

    Lookout Mountain Location :

    One of the full-time positions is scheduled to work Wednesday-Saturday, while the other full-time position is scheduled to work Sunday-Wednesday.

    Golden Location :

    This full-time position is scheduled to work Sunday-Wednesday.

    COMPENSATION:

    Hiring Range: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 USD Annual

    Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    • Plan, schedule, and coordinate the patrol of parks and Park Ranger operations. Ensure enforcement of parks rules and regulations. Supervise patrol of parks and properties to monitor visitor activity and enforce rules and regulations.
    • Patrol parks and properties to monitor visitor activity and enforce rules and regulations. Issue citations, summons, and provide court testimony. Perform patrols utilizing a variety of transportation methods.
    • Oversee and coordinate the procurement, maintenance, stocking, and repair of ranger vehicles, equipment and gear. Manage pro-card statements, uniform ordering and tracking.
    • Supervise and participate in emergency responses to search, rescue, medical, law enforcement incidents, and natural disasters. Determine allocation of staff, logistics, and equipment needed to coordinate and assist with emergency incidents. Determine level of field involvement for rangers in hazardous incidents. Provide emergency medical aid and assistance.
    • Manage and participate in the development and delivery of public outreach and educational programming. Review information to ensure it aligns with rules and regulations and supports park stewardship. Schedule and coordinates education programs, and events.Oversee and ensure biweekly contribution to organizational newsletters.
    • Provide team training for mandatory and supplemental certifications and skills.
    • Serve as a field training officer to provide training in the development of skills related to patrolling, interacting with the public, enforcing park regulations. Supervise and provide directions to field training officers.
    • Serve as a team liaison with internal and external groups and organizations.
    • Represent open space at various events, in meetings, and on committees. Present information to the public. Decide content of presentations.
    • Develop, implement, and supervise the various projects and programs that support the protection and stewardship of natural resources and the safety and education of park visitors. Monitor and evaluate projects and programsto determineif they align withkey initiatives.

    • Identify need and opportunities for outdoor recreation and resource studies in support of open space stewardship. Gain approval and assign research and studies.
    • Maintain tracking documentation for summons, ranger patrol logs, requests for service, ranger rosters, and code and contact lists.Ensure reports meet policies and procedures. Review reports and metrics and identify issues.
    • Ensure effective communication between staff, other divisions and departments, the public, and external stakeholders. Build strategic relationships internally and externally to facilitate effective communication. Prepare weekly reports outlining need-to-know information.
    • Recommend and implement policies, procedures, standards, and systems. Ensure rules, regulations, and procedures are followed.
    • Supervise staff in area of responsibility. Administer and make recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraisals, and taking corrective action. Conduct performance evaluations and communicate short- and long-term goals and objectives. Submit personnel records and reports as required by the County. Assist and advise subordinates as necessary, resolve problems as non-routine situations arise, and ensure adherence to established policies, procedures and standards. Communicate changes in policy and procedures to direct reports and implement them as directed.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Education: Bachelor’s Degree
    • Experience: Five (5) years of work-related or volunteer-related experience
    • Certifications/Licenses: None
    • Note an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable

    • CPR/AED/Standard 1st Aid
    • ASP Tactical Baton
    • OCAT (Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training)
    • Wildland Firefighter S-130/190
    • Ice Rescue
    • Mental Health First Aid
    • Incident Command Structure (ICS) 100 and 200
    • Professional Development Academy High Performance Leadership course within one year


    Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Bachelor's degree in conservation, environmental science, forestry, park management, geography, geology, chemistry, biology, wildlife management, natural resource management, environmental management, agricultural science, business administration, public administration, or related field.
    • Strong leadership and mentorship skills.
    • Independent critical thinking and analysis.
    • Ability to work well with diverse and different personalities.
    • Ability to remain calm and when necessary, deescalate conflict when working with people in crisis.


    ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION:

    • A valid Colorado driver’s license is required for positions that drive on County Business in either a county or personal vehicle within 30-days of hire or beginning to serve as an intern or volunteer for every position.
