Under general supervision, the role assists in ensuring accurate network topology, creating and maintaining catalog data, interpreting engineering and field documentation, and producing geospatial analysis and mapping products. The position collaborates with engineers, designers, and field personnel to support timely updates to the electric grid model and participates in GIS business process improvements, application testing, and storm response activities. The accuracy and timeliness of this work directly impact operational decision‑making, safety, service reliability, and organizational efficiency.
Job Description:Electric Power Grid (EPG) Geospatial Information System (GIS) Analyst IPurpose:Under general supervision and using knowledge of electric utility infrastructure and fundamental power principals, this position assists in modeling electrical infrastructure to ensure data is validated for proper topology, catalog data, and complies with Austin Energy's (AE's) Geospatial Information System (GIS) Electric Power Grid (EPG) specifications and standards.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Assists in creating catalog data for electric utility infrastructure to be used for model analysis by researching and collaborating with engineers, field personnel, and warehouse personnel.
- Assists in interfacing with designers, engineers, and field personnel to ensure accurate and timely modeling of electric utility infrastructure.
- Assists with programming activities such as design and testing of geospatial applications.
- Assists with the research and interpretations of source records and documents.
- Assists with the GIS business process analysis, alternatives development, and making recommendations.
- Responds to requests for information from internal and external customers.
- Assists with the development of GIS analysis and mapping products based on user requirements.
- Assists in incident command during storm mode.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of basic programming/scripting principles, techniques, and documentation practices.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of mapping, coordinate systems, projections, and scale.
- Knowledge of basic database design principles.
- Ability to read and interpret surveys, legal descriptions, cartography, engineering documents, construction plans, and aerial and orthophotography.
- Ability to produce maps and other representations of geospatial data using geospatial software.
- Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Skill in oral and written communications.
- Skill in using computers and related software applications.
Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent and one (1) year of education from an accredited college or university in a field related to the job.
- Experience may substitute for education up to one (1) year.
Licenses and Certifications Required:None.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience modeling electric utility network features within GE Smallworld Electric Office or another enterprise GIS platform.
- Experience working in an electric utility environment, preferably related to distribution or transmission systems.
- Experience with GIS data validation, quality control, or topology management.

Salary:$27.77 - $33.95/hr., depending on qualifications and experience.
