Responsibilities
What you'll do - Lead citywide financial reporting to ensure accurate, timely, and transparent information for decision-makers, auditors, and the public
- Manage the City's debt, investment, and liquidity portfolios to support financial stability, cash flow, and compliance with adopted policies
- Oversee tax administration and revenue collection efforts to improve compliance, safeguard taxpayer data, and strengthen revenue performance
- Direct development finance and incentive analysis to support responsible economic growth aligned with City policy
- Design and strengthen financial systems and internal controls to protect City assets and ensure compliance with GAAP, City Code, and Charter requirements
- Supervise and develop professional teams by setting priorities, providing performance feedback, and supporting skill growth across financial functions

What you'll bring Skills and experience - Strong background in municipal finance, accounting, financial reporting, or public-sector financial operations
- Experience managing or overseeing debt, investments, taxes, or large-scale financial systems

- Experience leading teams, setting priorities, and managing multiple high-impact projects
- Knowledge of GAAP and public-sector financial compliance requirements

Qualifications

- An accredited Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related subject area; and 5 (OR an accredited Master's degree in the mentioned fields and 3) years professional experience of a progressively responsible nature in corporate or municipal finance including but not limited to accounting, banking, billing and collections, debt and investment portfolio management, financial reporting, development review, and projecting and monitoring tax and fee activities, including 2 years' experience managing financial projects and/or programs.
- Valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies.
- Ability to pass a background check

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
