Responsibilities
What this role is
This role leads the day-to-day operations of correctional facilities and detainee transportation for the City of Kansas City, Missouri. You'll oversee supervisors, make high-level operational decisions, and ensure safety, compliance, and humane treatment across correctional services. This position offers stability, leadership autonomy, and meaningful impact in public safety operations.
What you'll do - Lead correctional facility and detainee transportation operations through supervisory staff to ensure safe, secure, and humane custody.
- Set and enforce operational procedures and departmental policies to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local correctional standards.
- Advise departmental leadership on staffing, facility readiness, and security planning to support informed operational decisions.
- Direct response efforts during critical incidents and emergencies to protect staff, detainees, and the public while ensuring proper documentation.
- Oversee staffing deployment, scheduling, and resource use to maintain coverage while staying within authorized staffing and budget limits.
- Build and maintain working relationships with courts, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and community partners to support smooth operations.

Qualifications
REQUIRES - High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in correctional operations, including two (2) years in a supervisory role.
- Valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with City of Kansas City, Missouri policies.
- Ability to pass a City-required physical examination.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
