THE POSITIONFacilities Maintenance Worker **Only the first 100 applications submitted will be considered. Please note the job posting may close without prior notice.** The current vacancies are in the Public Works and Transportation Departments. Positions assigned to the Public Works Department:
Under supervision performs a variety of plumbing, electrical and general repair/maintenance work to public buildings, including minor repairs to buildings with plaster, cement or wood filler; minor electrical repairs to switches, wall receptacles and light switches; minor plumbing repairs including facets and valves, and clearing of stoppages and plugged drains; assists the skilled maintenance staff in performing tasks such as building and installing cabinets, painting, plumbing, air conditioning and electrical maintenance including street lighting, traffic signal, heating, ventilating and air conditioning repairs; performs other related duties.
Positions assigned to the Transportation Department:
Makes minor repairs to bus stops utilizing plaster, cement, or wood; performs routine maintenance and repairs including preventative maintenance and adjustments of a variety of machinery and equipment associated with City bus stops (including shelters, benches, trashcans, and signs); performs minor electrical repairs to signs and LED displays; repairs and replaces new bus stop poles, signs, shelters, and related property.
Minimum Requirements: Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, abilities, and skills would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, abilities and skills would be: completion of one year full-time paid experience with the building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting or electrical work.
License and Certificates: Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURES- Written Test (weighed at 30%): To determine general maintenance knowledge and aptitude. ( Tentatively scheduled for the week of April 27, 2026 )
- Performance Test (weighed at 35%): To measure ability to perform maintenance tasks. ( Tentatively scheduled for the week of May 11, 2026 ).
- Oral Appraisal Interview (weighed at 35%): To evaluate training, experience, and personal qualifications. ( Tentatively scheduled for the week of May 11, 2026 ).
