    POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION

    The Golf Worker II position is a skilled to semi-skilled position involving light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance work of a primarily physically demanding nature. This position requires manual labor, customer service skills, and the availability to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays. This position is suited for those candidates who display additional skills based on previous background and work independently with more technical responsibilities.

    The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster has a Multilingual Stipend Program to encourage, and reward benefited employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English. Benefited employees have the opportunity to test their language proficiency skills and qualify for a bi-weekly stipend that will vary based on the employee’s level of proficiency and usage.

    This position will be located out of the Walnut Creek Golf Course (10555 Westmoor Dr.)

    The person selected for this position may work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.

    JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

    Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks
    1. This position assists in all phases of golf course maintenance including daily course set up, irrigation, spraying operations, and all projects related to the maintenance of a golf course.
    2. Operates construction equipment such as:
    • Walk-behind mowers
    • Bunker rakes
    • Utility vehicles
    • Manual hand tools
    • Tractors
    • Small backhoes
    • Loaders
    • Trenchers
    • Aerification equipment
    • Over Seeder
    • Top Dressers
    • Spraying Equipment
    • Other related mowing equipment
    3. Assists in daily irrigation duties, including repairs, “hot spot” watering, and Central Irrigation Control set up
    4. Will operate other specialized equipment, and assist in construction/maintenance projects
    5. Maintains regular and punctual attendance
    Other Duties and Responsibilities
    1. The Golf Worker position may also perform the following specific functions including:
    • Assisting in the application of fertilizers and herbicides, and calibration of application equipment
    • Performing work associated with special projects including but not limited to: sodding, top dressing, drainage installation, tree and shrub planting, annual and perennial bed maintenance, tee / green / bunker renovations, etc.
    • Acting in a supervisory capacity for Seasonal Specialists and hourly Field Workers
    • Supervising seasonal / hourly skeleton crew on weekends
    2. Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job, and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

    Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications
    Required :
    • High school diploma or possession of a GED
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record throughout employment
    Preferred :
    • Some college level coursework in related field or bachelor’s degree
    • Landscape and maintenance experience
    • Basic Irrigation knowledge
    • Colorado Department of Agriculture Pesticide License - Certified Operator 206
    Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
    Physical Requirements
    Work performed is physical in nature; physical stamina and strength is needed to:
    • Frequently sit, stand, and walk outdoor over uneven terrain to inspect condition of golf course and perform maintenance
    • Frequently squat, bend, kneel, reach below shoulder, and twist to perform daily turf, irrigation, and golf course maintenance; occasionally crawl, climb, and reach overhead for inspection, repair, and stocking of supplies
    • Frequent light/firm grasp and handling to properly use landscape tools and equipment; occasional fine manipulation perform course maintenance on turf, irrigation, and equipment
    • Frequent step up/down and actuate mechanism to safely enter/exit and operate golf carts, riding mowers, and vehicles
    • Constant near/far acuity to observe course for maintenance needs and safety hazards, and perform office tasks; constant hearing to effectively communicate with guests, staff, and to be aware of any possible dangers while on golf course
    • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds from floor to overhead to stock material and supplies; occasional lifting of up to 80 pounds from floor to waist and carrying of up to 80 pounds 15 feet to move bags of concrete, fertilizer, and rocks to work site and storage; occasional pushing/pulling of up to 100 pounds to transport maintenance supplies in clubhouse and on course using a pallet jack and wheelbarrows
    WORKING CONDITIONS
    Work is occasionally performed indoors and constantly outdoors with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures. Work is performed in a public golf course setting in which instruction and golf course maintenance are performed year-round.

    Pickup truck, small dump truck, tractor, hand tools, sod cutters, walking/riding mowers, snow blowers, snowplows, trailers, water tanks, air compressors, trenchers, backhoe, general maintenance equipment, golf carts, office equipment, gloves, earmuffs, safety goggles/glasses, face shields, welding jackets, steel-toed shoes, and dust/spray masks.

    Benefit Package

    The City of Westminster does not participate in the Social Security system. In lieu of Social Security contributions, the city contributes to a 401(a) defined contribution plan on your behalf.

    401(a) Contribution Rates:
    Employee Mandatory Contribution: 11.5% of your base pay. Contributions are pre-tax and fully vested.
    Employer Contribution: 12% of your base pay.

    Employer Contribution Vesting Schedule
    • Less than 3 years - 0%
    • 3 to 4 years - 60%
    • 4 to 5 years - 80%
    • Over 5 years - 100%
    • For employees age 55 and older, the employer contributions are 100% vested
