    This recruitment will supplement an existing eligibility list that will expire on November 12, 2026.

    The Information Technology Team at the City of Irvine is seeking an experienced and skilled Information Technology Specialist II - Senior Security Analyst to join their team. This role involves monitoring, detecting, investigating, and responding to cybersecurity incidents. The Senior Security Analyst is responsible for implementing and maintaining security policies, standards, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cybersecurity, firewalls, and network security,

    Your Impact
    • Monitor, detect, investigate, and respond to cybersecurity incidents using SIEM, EDR/XDR, and threat intelligence platforms.
    • Collaborate with the SOC service provider to investigate, contain, and remediate security events.
    • Participate in an On-Call rotation which may include evening and weekend support as needed.
    • Lead in-depth incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and support forensic activities related to security incidents and breaches.
    • Maintain, tune, and optimize recurring vulnerability scans across on-premises and cloud-based digital assets.
    • Contribute to the development, refinement, and maintenance of incident response plans, playbooks, and escalation procedures.
    • Implement and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures in alignment with CJIS, NIST SP 800-53, and CIS requirements.
    • Support internal and external security audits, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and industry frameworks.
    • Coordinate and support penetration testing activities, track findings, and work with teams to ensure timely remediation.


    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or closely related field and five (5) years of information technology experience, with one of those years acting in a lead or expert capacity performing a variety of progressively responsible technical or analytical tasks for computer systems or services in one or more functional area or a closely related or emerging information technology field or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.


    Best Fit
    • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, including threat detection, vulnerability management, intrusion detection/prevention, and incident response.
    • Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms and endpoint detection and response (EDR/XDR) solutions.
    • Experience administering and operating vulnerability management platforms.
    • Solid knowledge of firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and endpoint security technologies.
    • Working knowledge of network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, LDAP, and TLS.
    • Familiarity with network security and analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark, Snort).
    • Knowledge of email security controls and standards, including DMARC, DKIM, and SPF.
    • Proven ability to analyze and respond to complex security incidents, conduct forensic investigations, and implement effective remediation plans.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess cybersecurity risks and recommend practical mitigations.
    • Ability to clearly communicate security risks, findings, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Experience prioritizing vulnerabilities based on risk, business impact, and exploitability.

    The Process

    The selection process will include an examination and conduct a background investigation prior to appointment which includes a Public Safety Polygraph exam. This recruitment may establish an eligibility list to fill future positions in similar and/or lower classifications within the organization.
