    Job Summary

    Supports the development and implementation of stewardship strategies to build, strengthen, and maintain relationships with City stakeholders (residents, business owners, and community leaders) to promote long-term, diversified engagement with the community leveraging major events, community benefits and corporate as well as private philanthropy.

    Representative Duties

    Assists in identifying, developing, and coordinating initiatives of mutual interest and benefit to the City and community partners.

    Supports opportunities for collaboration and partnership formation to leverage external support that enhances community benefits.

    Coordinates with external partners, including vendors and consultants, on branding, marketing, graphic design, partnership programs, and public affairs activities.

    Provides support for public-private partnership efforts, including research, documentation, and coordination with internal departments.

    Provides administrative support for strategic initiatives, including preparing materials, coordinating meetings, and assisting with contract and agreement tracking.

    Supports special projects and major events by coordinating logistics, preparing communications, and serving as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders.

    Conducts initial community outreach, engagement, and education to inform residents about community partnership opportunities.

    Collects, tracks, and reports data benchmarks related to community partnership goals and outcomes.

    Conducts preliminary research and analysis to support recommendations on the feasibility of partnership opportunities.

    Provides support to the We Are Santa Monica Fund, including meeting donation opportunities and fund management.

    Assists in implementing fundraising strategies for City projects and community partnerships, including preparing materials and coordinating with City staff and stakeholders.

    Supports donation administration in accordance with the City’s Standard Donation Policy, including preparing staff reports, tracking donations, and assisting with donation-related inquiries.

    Assists in identifying and cultivating prospective donors to the We Are Santa Monica Fund and supports fund management activities.

    Prepares draft proposals, outreach materials, presentations and fundraising collateral for prospective donors and partners.

    Coordinates with City staff and consultants on marketing and outreach efforts related to community partnership initiatives and communication campaigns.

    Supports collaboration with the Office of Communications and local media on opportunities to promote community partnerships.

    Assists in the implementation and monitoring of policies related to community partnerships.

    May represent the City at City Council, community meetings, outreach events, and partnership-related activities with government agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, and residents.

    Performs related duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    Knowledge of:

    Federal, State, County, and local regulations related to community initiatives

    Principles of community partnerships

    Principles and practices of community services program coordination and implementation

    Basic principles of fundraising, donation administration and negotiating

    Principles and practices of program planning and budgeting

    Basic principles of project and financial management

    Principles of developing and supporting local partnerships

    Operations, services, and activities of community services programs

    Methods and techniques of public relations and community outreach

    Effective customer service techniques

    Ability to:

    Maintain awareness of emerging trends and best practices related to community partnerships

    Coordinate and evaluate programs

    Prepare and organize program materials, presentations, and reports

    Analyze problems and recommend practical solutions

    Provide guidance to support City staff and outside stakeholders

    Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

    Work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, elected and appointed officials, volunteers, residents, the business community and others who interact with the City

    Select, train, supervise and evaluate staff

    Analyze and interpret legal, legislative and policy principles

    Respond to inquiries and complaints in a tactful and courteous manner

    Provide effective customer service

    Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with the public, City staff, boards and commissions, and outside organizations

    Work with persons from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds as well as a variety of work styles, personalities, and approaches

    Skill in:

    Public relations and public speaking

    Collaborative problem solving

    Proactively building relationships

    Using personal computers and applicable software applications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Option A

    Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, community or economic development, regional planning, or a related field.

    Experience: Three (3) years of recent, paid experience supporting or coordinating community service programs, events, community outreach, or partnership initiatives, including one year of experience leading and coordinating the work of others.

    Option B

    Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.

    Experience: Four (4) years of recent, paid experience supporting or coordinating community services programs, events, community outreach, or partnership initiatives including two years of experience leading and coordinating the work of others.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    A related master’s degree.

    Experience working in a public agency or community-based organization.

    Licenses and Certifications:

    Possession of a valid Class C driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    If three or more qualified City employees apply and pass the examination, a promotional list will be established in addition to an open-competitive list. If fewer than three qualified City employees pass the examination, the appointing authority, in accordance with the City's civil service rules and regulations, can decline to use a promotional list, in which case a promotional list will not be established for this position.

    Note: Internal staff who submit transfer applications must notify the analyst in charge of the recruitment, via email, upon submission of their transfer application.

    Background Investigation:

    Candidates who have successfully completed all prior phases of the selection process will be subject to a thorough background investigation.
