    Position Description

    The City of Fresno PARCS Department is hiring lifeguards who are excited, motivated, and ready to make a difference. If you want to build leadership skills, work with a great team, meet new people, and help create a safe and positive summer for kids in our community, this is the perfect job for you. If you’re ready to level up your summer and do something meaningful, we want you on our team!

    PARCS is gearing up for summer activities in AQUATICS - In order to be assigned to a pool as a lifeguard, those in this position will be required to pass the Lifeguarding Certification Course which includes CPR and First Aid, provided by the Red Cross. This course will be provided by the City of Fresno for applicants after completion of hiring process. (If you currently possess a valid certificate, please upload it to your Careers Home Page under Attachments).

    Under supervision, LIFEGUARDS closely monitors pool area activities and swimmer safety; resuscitates and administers first-aid and CPR to swimmers and determines if medical care is necessary and notifies appropriate agency; may instruct in swimming, may assist with minor maintenance work in the pool area.

    Conditions of Employment

    Applicants that meet the minimum qualifications will be referred to the hiring department for further consideration. Selected individuals will be required to successfully pass a Department interview, a Department of Justice fingerprint, and provide proof of Tuberculosis (TB) clearance, prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

    Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

    Lifeguard: $ 18.00 per hour

    Previous COF Lifeguard $19.00 per hour

    Working hours: Incumbents may be required to work approximately 20-40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. Working hours may be between the hours of 8:00 am to 10:00 pm.

    Pursuant to the City of Fresno Charter, temporary employment shall not exceed 2,080 hours within 2 fiscal years; and may not exceed 29 working hours per week or if working up to 40 hours per week may not exceed 120 days. The City may also utilize this recruitment to fill limited, non-permanent assignments consistent with Fresno Municipal Code Section 3-256 (a) (2).

    The Requirements

    Previous experience in advanced swimming, lifesaving, or swim instruction is required, or enrollment in, or completion of, a recognized Junior Lifeguard program.

The City Manager, who is appointed by the Mayor, is responsible for appointing all other department heads in the City.
