    The City of Fort Worth Water Utility is a fast-paced and rewarding department that is responsible for providing safe and reliable water to the citizens of Fort Worth. Our Management Service Division has a Sr. Construction & Lake Facilities Inspector job available in the Security and Emergency Management Section, which is a 24/7 operation.

    Step into a high-impact, hybrid role that blends construction inspection with lake facility regulatory oversight. As a Senior Construction Inspector, you'll help ensure the safety, reliability, and compliance of projects around Lake Worth facilities and the dam, while partnering with contractors, residents, utilities, and City staff to keep work on time, within specs, and aligned with regulations.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    • High school diploma/GED supplemented by college-level coursework in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or a related field
    • Three (3) years of Construction Inspection experience involving the construction and maintenance of public utility systems and structures
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain within (6) months of employment
      • Texas Boating License
      • On-Site Sewage Facility (OSSF) Designated Representative License, within six (6) months of employment from TCEQ
    • Must pass Drug Screen & Human Performance Evaluation (HPE) prior to job placement

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • At least two (2) years of experience with water/sewer, storm drainage, concrete/asphalt
    • At least two (2) years of supervisory experience
    • Ability to work overtime/callback hours during weekdays, weekends and holidays

    The Sr. Construction & Lake Facilities Inspector job responsibilities include:
    • Review/interpret civil plans and specifications for water/sanitary sewer mains, storm drainage, and concrete/asphalt paving around Lake Worth Facilities and Dam
    • Apply experience with low-pressure sanitary sewer systems, including plumbing and electrical installations
    • Schedule and lead preconstruction meetings; perform thorough final inspections
    • Conduct detailed on-site inspections, document findings, and coordinate corrective actionsTrack permits, inspections, and reporting; collaborate with regulatory agencies and consultants
    • Serve as the primary liaison between contractors, residents, utilities, and City staff-keeping communication clear and projects moving smoothly
    • Maintain compliance with TCEQ regulations for Lake Worth Lake and the dam
    • Track permits, inspections, and reporting; collaborate with regulatory agencies and consultants
    • Support Real Estate and Lease Property processes related to lake facilities
    • Build and sustain positive relationships with neighborhood associations and community stakeholders
    • Assist Security and Emergency Management teams through administrative and fiscal support
    • Prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

    Working Conditions and Physical Demands

    Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, and workspace restrictions.

    Light Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.

    Medical Program

    The city’s Healthy Challenge Wellness Program rewards all full-time, benefit-eligible employees on the city’s health insurance. The Healthy Challenge Program utilizes a points system. Participants may earn points throughout the year (Jan. 1-Dec. 15) for completing specific program activities and participants can redeem points at the end of the year for a cash reward.
