    The Water and Land Resources Division is at the forefront of King County’s efforts to protect and restore clean water and healthy habitat and strengthen the resilience of communities, environment, and infrastructure in the face climate change. We are a dedicated workforce of more than 400 supported by an annual budget of ~$250 million. WLRD has a strong track record of developing innovative strategies for protecting working farms and forests, restoring habitat, protecting water quality, and ensuring people have equitable access to green space. We reduce flood hazards, manage stormwater facilities, and reduce toxic threats.  Our Environmental Lab and Science section maintain high-quality data sets used in long term-water quality trend analysis and use Best Available Science to inform decision making.  We house three salmon recovery forums and support the Land Conservation Initiative, which will preserve our last, most important natural lands and urban green spaces over the next 30 years. Our forestry and agricultural programs help people protect their lands and support local food production.   

    Job Description

    Summary

    This position is responsible for management of the Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) website to support WTD capital projects, programs and initiatives. This position provides a great opportunity to apply technical excellence alongside a passion for communication, innovation, accessibility, and standards within an organization committed to protecting public health, enhancing the environment, and supporting sustainable communities.

    About the Role:
    This role is designed for a skilled, self-motivated professional who will lead efforts in managing and enhancing the WTD website to provide accessible content to the public. This position will work with a diverse group of WTD staff (representing communications, media, outreach, engagement, government relations, planning, capital projects, grants and other agency services) and acts as the agency web representative to Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP) and King County Information and Technology (KCIT). The position will also support Environmental and Community Services Section (ECSS) SharePoint environments. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining the ECSS intranet and MS Teams sites, implementing SharePoint solutions, and driving automation to improve business processes. The successful candidate will also provide guidance and best practices to staff for effective collaboration and information sharing within a government setting.

    This position is a member of the Editorial and Web Publishing Services team in the Environmental Services Unit (ESU) of the ECSS of WTD. Our team provides technical writing and editing services as well as web and SharePoint content creation and design for ECSS, and customers throughout WTD. The Environmental Services Unit is committed to environmental protection and restoration through its responsibilities to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations and requirements.

    Job Duties

    What You Will Be Doing:
    The successful candidate will be responsible for providing agency web support as the primary role. A secondary role will be providing Microsoft 365 support to the Environmental and Community Services Section (ECSS). Duties include (but not limited to) the following:
    • Provide direct preparation of external web pages for capital projects, programs and division initiatives, and coordinate with supporting staff (editor, GIS, graphics). May occasionally require after hours web publishing support during emergencies.
    • Update and maintain web content to ensure it meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards, per KCIT guidance.
    • Manage web content to meet the business needs of Director’s Office communications team, community services leads, education and engagement staff, government relations, planners and other content owners of external web pages. Coordinate quarterly web meetings with Director’s Office communications team to identify future needs and refresh out-of-date content.
    • Provide Microsoft 365 support with a focus on intranet (SharePoint) sites and MS Teams sites for ECSS staff. Assess and recommend, in coordination with WTD technology unit, power platform tools to streamline ECSS business processes and administrative tasks.
    • Participate in development of web and SharePoint/intranet standards and guidance for WTD staff.


    Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

    Qualifications You Bring:
    • Demonstrated technical competence in web communications, UX design, and web analytics commensurate with an early to mid-level career
    • Demonstrated experience designing, managing and migrating SharePoint and MS Team sites commensurate with an early to mid-level career.
    • Exceptional skill in working collaboratively with staff at all levels, while providing high quality customer service.
    • Willingness and ability to participate in and support equity and social justice efforts including having difficult conversations and addressing microaggressions.
    • Exemplify continuous improvement in conducting assigned work.
    • Be exceptionally dependable in accomplishing work assignments with little assistance required and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
    • Excellent facilitation, oral and written communications skills.

    Supplemental Information

    Work Location: The Environmental and Community Services team works in a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change. The primary onsite location is Collaboration space at King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson, Seattle, Washington 98104. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
    Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible
