The San Mateo County Transit District is the administrative body for the principal public transit and transportation programs in San Mateo County: SamTrans bus service, including Redi-Wheels paratransit service, Caltrain commuter rail and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority. Caltrain and the TA have contracted with the District to serve as their managing agency, under the direction of their boards of directors.
Summary
The ADA Analyst is responsible for ensuring accessibility compliance across our bus stops, transit centers, vehicles, and facilities for San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) and Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Authority (Caltrain). Under the direction of the ADA Administrator, the successful candidate must be able to work independently, communicate effectively, and maintain strong working relationships with staff, consultants, and the public. A solid background in ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance, accessibility standards, and/or building codes is essential.
Job Description
Examples of Essential Duties:
- Conduct field evaluations of bus stops, shelters, transit facilities, and rights-of-way for ADA and CBC compliance.
- Review project plans, construction documents, and specifications to verify accessibility compliance.
- Provide technical guidance to planners, engineers, and project managers during design and construction.
- Respond to accessibility inquiries and assist in the resolution of ADA-related complaints.
- Prepare clear written reports summarizing field findings, deficiencies, and recommended corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate record-keeping systems and compliance documentation.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to address accessibility issues and support project delivery.
- Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect self, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision: Works under the general supervision of the ADA Administrator who establishes goals and objectives and evaluates performance.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:
- A Bachelor’s degree in construction, civil engineering, architecture, or related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in accessibility compliance, ADA analysis, building inspection, or directly related field.
- Professional working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and accessibility standards.
- Able to conduct field inspections in San Mateo and neighboring counties.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Able to possess a valid CA driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, consultants, and the public.
- Experience reviewing project plans or documents for ADA compliance.
- Professional experience in compliance measures or enforcement of ADA requirements.
- Experience developing site-specific construction designs or plans.
- Experience with field construction and trade work.
- Experience collaborating with internal and external customers and diverse stakeholders including disabled individuals, regulatory agencies, and public advocacy groups.
- Experience using accessibility evaluation tools, hardware, and software to assess compliance and identify accessibility issues proactively.
