    About Menifee The City of Menifee is located in southwestern Riverside County approximately 30 miles southeast of the City of Riverside, California. The city encompasses approximately 50 square miles with an overall population of 91,902.Interstate 215 traverses north and south through the center of Menifee, with existing community commercial areas located primarily along Newport, Bradley, and McCall Roads off of I-215. Surrounding Communities The City of Menifee includes the communities of: Sun City, Quail Valley, and portions of Romoland. The city is generally bordered on the north, west, and south by the cities of: Canyon Lake Lake Elsinore Murrieta Perris Wildomar To the east and northeast, the city border sunincorporated county territory. History of Menifee Roads In the 1940's many of the Menifee roads that you see today were given a "family name." These names could be traced back to an early settler of Menifee who had owned a property in a specific location. Early Inhabitants The area was originally inhabited by the Luiseno and Pechanga Indian tribes, and in the 1700s, the area fell under the rule of the Spanish empire. The area was eventually annexed into the United States from Mexico in 1850 under California's statehood. Farming activity beginning in the mid-1800s was concentrated in the Menifee area. Mining activity began in the early 1880s with the discovery of a significant quartz lode by miner Luther Menifee Wilson. Menifee derived its name from that mining operation. Early Development Early development of the City of Menifee began with Sun City in the early 1960s as the concept of an active retirement community that was envisioned by Del Webb, a major building contractor from Phoenix, Arizona. Sun City is centrally located within the City of Menifee with a mix of residential and commercial activity. The Menifee area began to grow further in 1989 with the master-planned community of Menifee Lakes and continues to be one of the fastest growing communities in California. Quail Valley is a semi-rural residential community in the northwestern section of the city, and Romoland is a residential and commercial community located in the northeastern section of the city. Schools Elementary and middle school education in the City of Menifeeare provided by the Menifee Union School District and the Romoland School District. High school education is provided by the Perris Union High School District. The City of Menifee is also home to Mt. San Jacinto College. The Menifee campus serves the Temecula, Murrieta, and Menifee area. Incorporation of the City On June 3, 2008, the residents of the communities encompassing the City of Menifee voted to incorporate Menifee into Riverside County's 26th city. The new City of Menifee was officially established on October 1, 2008.

    THE DEPARTMENT

    The City of Menifee Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency committed to protecting and serving the residents of Menifee with professionalism, integrity, and transparency.     THE OPPORTUNITY

    The Police Corporal will serve as a pivotal leader within the department, providing advanced field expertise, operational guidance, and high-level support to patrol teams. This role offers the opportunity to perform the full spectrum of law enforcement duties while also stepping into a leadership capacity, acting as a Sergeant when needed and providing day-to-day direction to officers in the field. The Corporal will play a critical role in shaping the next generation of officers by serving as a Field Training Officer (FTO), delivering structured onboarding, coaching, and performance evaluation in accordance with POST standards. With responsibilities ranging from proactive patrol and investigative work to community engagement, crime prevention, and administrative assignments, this position is ideal for an experienced officer who demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, and a commitment to professionalism. The Corporal will be a visible leader, a role model in the field, and a key contributor to maintaining public safety and strengthening community trust.

    The Police Corporal will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
    • Provide field leadership and direction to officers during patrol operations.
    • Act as a Sergeant when needed, overseeing shift activities and personnel.
    • Serve as a Field Training Officer (FTO), training and evaluating probationary officers in accordance with POST standards.
    • Conduct proactive patrols, respond to calls for service, and enforce laws and ordinances.
    • Perform investigative duties, including interviews, evidence collection, and report preparation.
    • Make arrests, serve warrants and subpoenas, and testify in court.
    • Provide traffic enforcement and manage traffic control during incidents and special events.
    • Engage in community policing to build trust and maintain positive public relations.
    • Assist with scheduling, staffing, and onboarding of new officers.
    • Maintain accurate reports, logs, and documentation.
    • Ensure proper use and care of department vehicles, equipment, and safety gear.
    • Participate in training, meetings, and specialized assignments as needed.


    MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma (or its equivalent) and at least five (5) years of full-time, sworn law enforcement with a public agency, including three (3) years of patrol experience.

    Candidates must have passed probation in their current classification in order to be considered for this position.

    Licenses and Certifications:
    • Possession of a valid California POST Basic Certificate
      • (POST Intermediate Certificate is preferred).
    • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.


    ADDITIONAL NOTES
    • This classification is intended for current sworn personnel who have already satisfied all POST employment standards, including age, citizenship and POST background investigation, physical examination, and psychological evaluation.
    • Any assignment into this role is subject to departmental promotional procedures and successful completion of required training .

    RECRUITMENT PROCESS

    Appraisal Interview
    Applicants will participate in an oral interview conducted by a panel of subject matter experts. Evaluations will be based on responses to structured questions specifically designed to assess each candidate’s qualifications and suitability for the position.

    Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.

    Eligible List: Once the appraisal has been completed, HR will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
    Physical Demands

    Must possess mobility to work primarily in a patrol and field environment and to maintain P.O.S.T. physical standards, including mobility, physical strength, and stamina to respond to emergency situations and apprehend suspects; vision to operate vehicles in all conditions, frequently at a high rate of speed, to maintain firearms qualification and to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone or radio.

    The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking or running or standing on uneven terrain and climbing and descending structures to access crime scenes and to identify problems or hazards; vision and manual dexterity to operate an emergency response vehicle at high rates of speed in emergency situations. Finger and manual dexterity is needed to operate police services equipment and firearms, and to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard. Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work. Employees must possess the ability to apprehend, lift, carry, push, and pull victims, suspects and equipment as determined within P.O.S.T physical standards, which may include the use of proper equipment.

    Environmental CONDITIONS

    Employees work in a field environment with exposure to criminal offenders, mentally ill individuals, and persons potentially infected with communicable diseases; and outdoor conditions with exposure to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, moving vehicles, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Duties are also performed in an office or station environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Employees in this classification are subject to on-call, which may include rotating-duty schedule, weekends, and 24-hour emergency call out with little or no notice.
