    Please note : The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed salary range listed above.

    This position will be located at Onondaga Cave State Park, 7556 Missouri H, Leasburg, MO 65535. Shifts are primarily Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Position will require working a minimum of two weekends a month during the on season. Must be available to participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars requiring overnight stays.

    • Oversee and manage all planning, development and administration aspects of Onondaga Cave State Park including operation and maintenance of caves, campground, day use and grounds, extensive trail system along with revenue collection, accounts payable, budget management and monthly reporting. Oversee large self-operated concession operation
    • Oversee the work and behavior of staff and directly supervise, train and mentor staff at the park
    • Ensure the preservation, protection and interpretation of the cultural and natural resources at the park
    • Coordinate special events, group outings, and special program requests with a variety of stakeholders including the park’s friends group
    • Respond to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, personal injuries, lost hikers, disturbances, natural disasters, and any other significant events within the park
    • Collaborate with other agencies and or stakeholders always seeking for opportunities to partner to better serve visitor or protect resources
    • Skill in reviewing, analyzing, interpreting, and/or preparing federal or state laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to assigned program
    • Assist in resource stewardship activities

    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can include: Park Management, Parks and Recreation, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Botany, Biology, Natural Sciences, Business of Public Administration or related field AND 5 or more years of management, supervision and participation in interpretation, preservation, protection, maintenance and enhancement of state parks and historic sites. ( Substitutions for additional education or experience may be allowed ) . Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.


    Preferred Qualifications and Experience/Special Job Requirements

    • Knowledge of natural and cultural resource management
    • Knowledge of managerial techniques, administrative practices, and health and safety techniques related to general maintenance and cleaning of public facilities
    • Ability to communicate effectively in-person, phone and email to staff, park visitors and state and local organizations
    • Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, evenings, and split shifts as needed. Must work a minimum of two weekends per month from April 1 to October 31
    • Available to participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays
    • Must be able to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions and have the ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
    • MDC Level I prescribed fire training or equivalent within first six months of appointment
    • Ability to provide leadership and supervision to staff
    • Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license
