    Job Summary

    POSITION SUMMARY
    The Recreation Steward position performs semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of system trails, and outdoor recreation facilities. It also supports public lands managers in restoring natural resources and promoting sustainable recreation. Work includes leading volunteer and crew teams, conducting trail assessments, performing hands-on maintenance, operating tools and equipment, and completing project documentation. The role requires extensive outdoor fieldwork-often in remote backcountry settings-and physical stamina to complete labor-intensive tasks.

    Additional Information

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • One season of trail-related or outdoor maintenance experience preferred.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Class C Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to pass required background checks and DOT drug/alcohol testing.

    Physical Requirements
    This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 75 lbs (and occasionally up to 100 lbs with assistance), working with hand and power tools, and performing repetitive motions. Must be able to work at various elevations, on uneven terrain, and in physically demanding conditions.

    Work Environment
    Fieldwork involves exposure to heat, weather, moving equipment, rough terrain, and occasionally chemicals, vibrations, and heights. Office work is occasional and generally quiet.

    This position is not eligible for benefits.
